Flood damage to Greenway to be repaired

Published Thursday, 20 March 2014

Enfield Council has announced it has started repairing the Greenway in Hillyfields that was extensively damaged by the recent unusually heavy rain and flooding as a matter of urgency.

Council officers have already carried out repairs to the worst effected section and will shortly move on to repairing the other damaged sections.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member, Cllr Chris Bond, said: “While the damage to homes was remarkably light in Enfield as a result of the flooding prevention work we’ve been doing in recent years unfortunately the very heavy and prolonged rain we had did cause damage to part of this Greenway.

“It’s a popular route and people have been using it in great numbers and we’ll be repairing the damage as rapidly as possible.”

Greenways are improved routes for cyclists, walkers and wheelchair users across the north of the borough.
The routes enable those not normally able to access woodlands, parks, open spaces and watercourses to do so. Parts of this route are linked using minor roads not heavily used by motorised transport.

The Transport for London funded network of routes will form part of a capital wide network.
