Enfield Council is keen to encourage as many people as possible to participate in the scheme so that problems can be identified early and dealt with promptly, which will help to reduce the number of people with conditions such as heart disease and circulatory problems.

If you are aged between 40-74 years old and have not already had any of the diseases below you are eligible for a free health check:

• Heart attack
• Stroke / mini stroke
• Angina
• Diabetes
• High blood pressure
• High cholesterol

Health checks take place at GPs practices, pharmacists, ASDA stores, Albany Leisure Centre and at ad hoc community events. They don’t take long, and they are also available at different events throughout the borough and several schools.

Cllr Christine Hamilton, Cabinet Member for Community Health and Wellbeing said “It was great news to celebrate the 5,000th health check in Enfield, funded by Enfield Council. I had one myself and was also given lifestyle advice which I found useful, and which will help ensure that I live as long and a healthy life as possible.

“Even if you feel well in yourself it is easy to have a health check, and as we grow older some medical issues such as high cholesterol, blood pressure problems or diabetes can go unnoticed, so it is wise to get checked out.

“Having a health check means you identify potential problems early on so you can make simple lifestyle changes or be referred to medical services if necessary.

“I would urge everyone in the borough between 40 and 74 to get checked out as soon as possible.”

Health checks form part of the Enfield 2020 programme, helping to improve the health and wellbeing of residents in Enfield.
