Enfield Council aiming for a clean sweep

Published Wednesday, 19 February 2014

Eight shiny new sweeping vehicles will be hitting the streets soon after Enfield Council agreed to fork out more than £420,000 to improve the cleanliness of the borough’s streets.

The new multi-purpose sweepers will replace vehicles that were previously leased by the council and whose hire periods have finished. They will be used to maintain parks, keep shopping areas, roads, cycle paths and footpaths clean and leaf free, as well as gritting pavements and other paths in icy weather. They will also allow more effective spraying of weeds.
Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Chris Bond, said: “These new machines are multi-purpose vehicles and will enable us to do a whole range of jobs quickly and effectively. They’ll focus on our local shopping centres and retail centres as well as our parks and pavements and we’ll be able to use them to grit vital areas such as rail and bus stations and town centres when the icy weather hits us.
“This once again demonstrates our commitment to keeping Enfield clean and tidy , we are very proud of how clean we keep our borough and residents really appreciate all the hard work our staff do to keep their borough spotless.”
