Substance misuse service commissioned in Enfield

Published Monday, 03 February 2014

Enfield Council has agreed to renew the substance misuse prevention services in Enfield which works to help people recover from drug and alcohol problems to enable them to make an active contribution towards our community.

The contracts cover the rehabilitation of young people and adults, are for three years and fully funded by external grants.

The services will provide specialist NHS treatment to improve the health and wellbeing and overall lifestyles of drug and alcohol misusers. This importantly includes supporting children affected by parental use as this is a major public health prevention initiative.

Cllr Christine Hamilton, Cabinet Member for Community Wellbeing and Public Health said “Enfield Council is firmly committed to tackling substance misuse.

“Abusing drink and drugs impacts on a wide range of areas including health, mortality, crime, families and our communities, and for every £1 spent on substance misuse services it saves the wider community £2.50 through reduced crime, hospital admissions and less people claiming benefits, so this is money well spent which will deliver real benefits to the community.”

Alcohol and substance misuse affects the whole family. If you think you could benefit from help and support you can contact Enfield Council’s substance misuse Assessment and Care Review Team on 020 8379 6174 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
