Volunteers who attended the event came from libraries across the borough and the Local Studies Unit, their roles included computer buddy, children’s activity support, Summer Reading Challenge ESOL conversation club leaders and Local Studies volunteer.

In total, 46 volunteers currently contribute to the service and since April 2013 they have contributed over 2,225 hours to the scheme.

Cllr Bambos Charalambous, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure Youth and Localism who handed out certificates to the volunteers said “Library volunteers contribute so much to the service, performing a number of roles such as helping people get online and assisting residents to use library services.

“There are also specialist language clubs and music volunteers, the roles are exciting and varied.

“Library volunteers come from all sections of society and are across all ages, and this week I was delighted to be able to thank them officially for all the work they do.”
