Britain Since 1948: 'The Windrush Years' Loan Box

This resource has been developed to assist teachers of Key Stage 2 History Unit 13: 'How has life in Britain Changed Since 1948?' & Key Stage 2 Citizenship Unit 5: 'Living in a diverse world'.

The artefacts reflect many aspects of domestic daily life, from recipes and magazines to ornaments and fashion from the late 1940s and 1950s.

The artefacts set the scene not only for understanding what daily life was like for the people of Britain, but also show what was seen by the first big wave of immigrants to reach Britain from the Caribbean, on board The SS Empire Windrush in 1948, and on countless other ships in the following years.
