Proposal to change to monthly payments for early education funded places

Details of the consultation

Each year Enfield Council pays early years providers around £25m for providing Early Years Education as part of the Government’s free entitlement offer to parents.

All councils have been asked by the Government, on behalf of the Department for Education, to consult on the timeliness of payments to providers. The preference of the Government is that payments should be made monthly, rather than the termly basis in which we currently make payments. The suggestion is made in the Early Education and Childcare Statutory Guidance for Local Authorities June 2018. For further information, you could also view the Early years entitlements: local authority funding of providers (operational guide 2018 to 2019).

For details of how we administer funding for free educational places for two, three and four-year old, please refer to our Free Entitlement Guide.

Following the Government’s recommendation, we are taking this opportunity to engage with providers on our proposal to move to a monthly payment model.

Before you tell us your views, we recommend you read our consultation document.
