Home Library Service

Our libraries provide a range of services to meet special library needs.  These include large print books, audio books, Braille resources, computers and a home library delivery service.

Special services

To ensure that our library services can be enjoyed by as many people as possible, we have some special services:

  • Large-print books
  • Recorded books
  • Free postal taped books for people with visual impairment
  • Print magnifying machines
  • Induction loops

  At certain libraries

  • Specialist software for people with sight impairment, and children's books in Braille can be found at several libraries.
  • The Cunneen Collection at Ordnance Road Library has books and British Sign Language (BSL) videos about deaf issues for adults and children.
  • DVDs are available at most libraries. Most DVDs include subtitles.

People with special needs are entitled to reduced library fees and charges. Please ask your local library. 

Home Library Service

People who have difficulty getting to a library and would like books (including taped books) delivered to them can apply for the Home Library Service. We visit our Home Library users once every four weeks. For more information either phone or fax:

The Sir Jules Thorn IT Centre

  • This centre based at Ordnance Road Library provides a range of equipment and free one-to-one training sessions tailored for people with sensory impairments.
