Stop Junk Mail Campaign
Stop Junk Mail
Did you know that up to 400 pieces of junk mail is delivered to your home every year?
Here's how to receive the mail you really want and cut waste. Just take one or more of these easy steps:
1. Reduce personally-addressed mail
Action: Register with Mailing Preference Service to have your name and address removed from up to 95 percent of mailing lists. This is a free service.
Register online or ring 08457 034599 to request an application form.
2. Cut 'unaddressed' mail
Unaddressed mail means leaflets or letters without a postal address (Note: By law, Royal Mail must deliver any mail addressed 'To the Occupier').
Action: Royal Mail delivers about 25 percent of unaddressed mail through their Door to Door service.
To opt out of these deliveries, request an opt-out form by:
1. Writing to:
Freepost RRBT-ZBXB-TTTS
Royal Mail Door to Door Opt Outs
Kingsmead House
Oxpens Road
Oxford OX1 1RX
2. Email: optout@royalmail.com
Action: Put a 'No leaflets' sticker on your letterbox.
3. Avoid new mailing lists
Action: When completing forms, always check the box, or write to the company, requesting no further correspondence.
Check the box on the council's annual electoral registration form to opt out of the edited version of the electoral register, which companies can buy for marketing purposes.
4. Leave mailing lists
Action: Ask companies and organisations that you had dealt with in the past to remove you from their database.
Action: Return unwanted mail to the sender. Download these 'Return to Sender' labels for speed.
