The London Borough of Enfield was created in 1965 and comprises the former metropolitan boroughs of Enfield, Southgate and Edmonton.Enfield is the capital's most northerly borough and is home to a diverse community of over 280,000 people. People from all over the world choose to make their home in Enfield, and Middlesex University is the most popular UK university with international students.
Enfield is one of the greenest boroughs in London with 105 parks and open spaces and its close proximity to stunning countryside just 13 miles from central London.
Enfield was once known as London's workshop. The famous Enfield Small Arms Factory produced the Lee Enfield Rifle. This rich industrial heritage still lives on today as the borough is home to several high tech industries as well as the giant Coca Cola bottling plant in Edmonton.
Former famous residents include horror actor Boris Karloff, the late Reg Varney, of On the Buses fame, who opened Britain's first ever cash point at Barclays Bank in Enfield and TV legend, Bruce Forsyth, who was born in Edmonton. Other celebrity residents include Myleene Klass and Amy Winehouse.
