Emergency Planning

If you are Evacuated

An emergency or major incident may happen close to where you live or work or actually within your home and it may be that you are evacuated for your own safety.

If this should happen, Enfield Council would set up a rest centre for everyone and provide transport (if necessary) to get you there.

When you arrive at the rest centre we will take your details and register you. This is so that we are able to:

  • Reunite separated family members
  • Keep records of who the emergency has affected
  • Work with the Police if it is a major emergency and a family helpline is set up

A rest centre is there to provide shelter for evacuated residents while the incident is being dealt with, this means that it could be open for hours or even days.  You will be provided with information and refreshments although the the amenaties will only be basic and having your Emergency Grab Bag may make your stay more comfortable. However, if you have family or friends nearby you are free to stay with them as you do not have to attend the rest centre and can leave whenever you want.

In rest centres we strive to provide a helpful service and be sympathetic to all needs and it helps us if you remain calm and cooperative throughout the process.
