Housing and Council Tax Benefit - Current Claim
Processing your claim and how we pay Housing Benefit
Once we have a claim form, we will check if any supporting information is missing and will send you a letter if we need more information. You have one month to supply the requested information. We may visit you to confirm your residency.
We cannot make payments if we do not have the information that we need.
We generally make the payment effective from the Monday following receipt of the claim form. You may, however, make a claim for backdated benefit on the form. You must supply evidence to back up your backdating request, such as a letter proving you were in hospital, etc. Just not knowing you could claim earler is not enough reason for backdating to be granted.
