I am being asked to leave my home

What do I do if I am being asked to leave my home?

If you are being asked to leave your home, get advice straightaway.

The best way to deal with homelessness is to prevent it.

Do not wait until you are made homeless before contacting us for help because your options will be limited.

If you are staying with family or friends and are asked to leave, we may be able to help you move into private rented accommodation.

If you are renting your home, a Housing Adviser can tell you whether your landlord can evict you, and may be able to act on your behalf. You may be able to stay where you are for a bit longer.

If you have problems paying the rent or keeping your tenancy going, a Housing Adviser can give you advice and help.

If you have problems paying your mortgage, talk to your mortgage provider, the Citizens' Advice Bureau or a solicitor.

The council provides housing advice and help for people who are homeless. This does not always mean that accommodation will be provided. To find out as much as we can about you and your needs, we will ask you questions to find out how we can best help you.

Direct Gov provides a wide range of helpful advice.
