The amount of benefit that you can receive depends on a number of factors. Our Benefit Calculator can estimate if you will receive any benefit (help with your rent or Council Tax).  If it is estimated that you will receive something you will be asked if you want to continue to make an on-line application.

You can work out your housing and council tax benefit using this calculator. If you find you may receive benefit you can save the data as an on-line application form.

If you are a new claimant living in private rented accommodation:

Under Local Housing Allowance (LHA) rules, tenants receive a standard allowance based on the number of bedrooms they or their family needs (maximum of 4 bedrooms).

One bedroom will be allowed for each of the following:

• A single adult (an adult is someone who is aged 16 or over)
• Every adult couple
• Any two children of the same sex aged under 16
• Any two children, regardless of sex, aged under 10
• Any other child

Find the LHA rate for that number of rooms on LHA current room rates. That will be the maximum you can receive.

If you are a council tenant, a housing association tenant or an existing claimant, just enter your rent into the calculator.
