Housing and Council Tax Benefit - An Overview
Other welfare benefits
Some people who claim HB and CTB are working on low incomes. They may or may not receive other benefits such as Working Tax Credit.
These are some welfare benefits that they can apply for:
- Working Tax Credit.
- Income Support
- Jobseeker's Allowance
- Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
Tax Credits
If you work, but earn low wages, you may qualify for Working Tax Credit. See Direct Gov for more information about benefits and help when you are returning to work.
Pension Credit
Pension Credit is made up of two components: Guaranteed Credit and Savings Credit. Guaranteed Credit can top up any money that you already have coming in each week, to the level that the government identified that you need to live on. Savings Credit gives extra money to people aged 65 or over who have saved for their retirement, for example, they have an occupational or private pension or savings.
For more information, visit The Pension Service website or call 0800 991234.
Other claimants rely on welfare benefits such as Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance and Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) for their income.
