Dangerous Structures

Dangerous Structures

A building or structure can become dangerous if:

  • It is old
  • It has deteriorated
  • It was damaged in other ways

If you see a building or structure that you think is dangerous, report it to us immediately. We aim to respond within one hour; we provide this 24-hour service all-year round.

We will send a surveyor to assess the situation.

If danger is imminent, we will contact the owner. If we cannot reach the owner, the surveyor may call a contractor to ensure maximum safety: the contractor could cordon off the surrounding area, put up warning signs or demolish the building or structure.

The owner has to undertake all costs incurred.

If the danger is not imminent, the surveyor will serve a Notice on the owner; the owner should correct the situation as soon as possible.
