Grass verges in the countryside (on banks and by footpaths)

  • 10 summer cuts in a two-week cycle between March and October
  • 1 winter cut between December and March
  • Grass is cut to a height of 50mm
  • Cuttings are left on the grass areas

Grass verges in conservation areas

  • Once a year as standard, but also when local site conditions require a cut for the benefit of wildlife

In addition to our regular street cleaning, litter is picked before each cut to prevent the cutting-up and spread of rubbish

Edging or trimming
The edges of grass verges are trimmed once a year during the winter months.

If your property was damaged (e.g. broken car window) as a result of grass cutting, please:

  • Record details of the incident, including the time, date, place, what damage was caused and take photographs if possible.
  • Report the incident to the contractor using the free phone number 0800 9173208.  Most claims will be settled directly through its insurer.
  • Do not arrange repairs yourself before contacting us or the contractor, because this may delay the processing of your claim.
  • In the unlikely event of your claim not being handled satisfactorily, you should contact Highways Services on 020 8379 4020.

Grass verge damage
