Road Closures

If works are to be carried out safely on a public road (e.g. footpath, road), thus either requiring it to be closed or traffic to be restricted temporarily, the contractor needs to apply for a Traffic Management Order (TMO) from us.

Representatives from the contractor, council, police, London Buses (if a bus route is affected) and other interested parties may need to set up a site meeting. The method of working, associated measures and safety implications will be discussed at this meeting.

You have to apply for the TMO at least six weeks before you want to start the works. We need the time to complete the necessary legal procedures.

A TMO costs £1,185.70. The contractor also has to pay for all other costs associated with the closure (e.g. erection and maintenance of diversion signs, and local publicity if required).
