Maintaining non-illuminated street furniture
Our highway inspectors examine busy (major) roads every month, and less busy (minor) roads every six months.
During these inspections they look out for damaged street furniture and raise any necessary repair orders.
We provide and maintain non-illuminated street furniture to enhance local public areas.
Non-illuminated street furniture includes:
- Concrete, metal or wooden bollards
- Cycle racks
- Guard rails and fencing
- Public seats and benches
- Street name plates
- Unlit direction signs
- Unlit road signs (e.g. those for speed limits, give-way)

Reporting damaged street furniture
If you see damaged street furniture report it to us using the contact details below or our online reporting form.
Please let us know:
- What has been damaged
- How it has been damamged
- The exact location of where it is
If you have witnessed someone vandalising street furniture report it to us and let us know details such as:
- Date
- Time
- Vehicle registration number
Where possible we will try to recover the costs of repairs from the party responsible for the damage.
Repairing street furniture
We will inspect damaged non-illuminated street furniture within 10 working days of receiving your report. If it may cause danger we will inspect the site within 24 hours.
Priority is given to dangerous damage in accordance with the Highway Maintenance Code of Good Practice.
Repairs are carried out on a priority basis
Repairs are prioritised according to:
- Damage
- Available funds
- Threat of potential danger
If the damage is dangerous, we will have it repaired within 24 hours.
