Road safety cycling and walking to school
Road safety cycling and walking to school
Together we can make a difference to children's journey to and from school by making it:
- Safer
- Healthier
- Less harmful to the environment
- More interesting
School Travel Plans
The government has ruled that by 2010 all schools in England must have a School Travel Plan.
The School Travel Plan initiative aims to cut congestion and pollution caused
by the school run through:
- Promoting sustainable travel within school communities; and
- Raising awareness, among pupils and parents, about the harmful effects that increasing car usage has on children's health, safety and independence.
School Travel Plans look at ways to encourage walking and cycling to school, along with the use of public transport and car share schemes.
School Travel Plans are written by collaborating with the whole school community through a working party of teachers, parents, governors, support staff and pupils.
School Travel Plans also aim to improve the safety of the main walking and cycling routes to school.
