Bulky waste collections

Items that we cannot collect

We cannot collect certain household waste items because of their size, nature and volume.

Items that can be disposed at Barrowell Green Recycling Centre.

You can dispose certain household waste items at the centre (Barrowell Green, Winchmore Hill, N21 3AU).

Such items include:

  • Batteries
  • Brick work, building materials, ceramic tiles, rubble and soils (You can dispose a maximum of 6 bags containing such materials.)
  • Car engines (These must not contain water or oil.)
  • Fluid containers (e.g. drums) (these must be empty)
  • Garden waste
  • Glazed window frames, green house or glass
  • Gym equipment (e.g. exercise bikes)
  • Heavy cast iron items (e.g. bathtubs)
  • Lawn mowers
  • Plasterboard
  • Prams/ pushchairs
  • Pushbikes
  • Radiators
  • Safes
  • Tree trunks or thick branches

The centre is for household waste only; it is an offence to dispose trade waste there. Vans exceeding the height limit of 5'9" (or 1.75 metres) cannot enter the site.

Items that we cannot collect and cannot be disposed at Barrowell Green.

Such items include:

  • Gas bottles
  • Pianos
  • Tyres

Please note that when a contractor carries out work on your house, it is their responsibility to dispose of the waste.
