Supporting pupils with medical needs in schools
Supporting pupils with medical needs in schools
We have a policy for helping pupils with medical needs when they are in school.
This policy:
-
Establishes the legal position on administering medication; and
-
Provides forms that the school can use in consultation with parents if a medical care plan is needed.
All schools would have either adopted this policy or developed their own. Please obtain the school's policy from the school.
The policy aims to:
-
Build on the existing good practice, which ensures that children with medical needs attend school and benefit from doing so.
-
Establish the ways in which schools can effectively and safely meet the needs of these pupils.
-
Build a framework for supporting staff who can assist these pupils.
-
Complement schools' health and safety policies.
