Where to get advice

You can get in-depth pre-application advice.  There is a charge for providing advice on large-scale developments.

Planning guidance is also available online from the Planning Portal, which has interactive tools and guidance  to illustrate if certain developments require planning permission. Their Interactive House provides a useful guide for householder development.

There are also mini guides covering House extensions, Porches, Outbuildings and Loft conversions.
