Controlled parking zones
Why Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs) are needed
CPZs are in areas where heavy parking has created the need for extra measures, particularly around railway and underground stations that attract commuter parking.
How CPZs work
The zone entry signs show the hours of the waiting restriction (parking ban).
The Department of Transport stipulates that if possible, all waiting restrictions should be the same within a CPZ so that time plates are not needed within the zone in addition to the entry signs. Similarly there are exit signs when leaving the CPZs.
Examples:
However, if some of the restrictions apply during other periods (e.g. during peak hours or at all times), time-plates will be required for the relevant lengths of road and road markings will correspond.
You are only allowed to park in the zones during operating hours with a valid permit.
You have to park within the markings of a bay and display a valid Resident's or Business Permit. There should be an information plate nearby that states if a specific permit is required (i.e. Resident Permit Holders only or Business Permit Holders only).
A Resident's permit or a Visitor's Parking Card (scratch card) can also be used in the Resident Permit Holders bays relevant to the CPZ.
There are different permits for CPZs; they are:
- Resident permit
- Business Permit
- Special permit
- Carer permit
- Community Health Permits
- Visitor's Parking Cards
To find out more about how to apply for and renew a permit, and how to use the permits, refer to our Controlled Parking Zone in Enfield leaflet.
Anyone wishing to obtain a resident permit must show proof of residency (dated within the most recent three months) and vehicle ownership (registration document or insurance certificate - an insurance schedule is not acceptable). These documents will also be required when renewing a permit.
The Council does not currently issue renewal reminder letters to permit holders.
For more details about resident permits and other permits please see the leaflet referred to above.
Visitor scratch card permits for one-hour CPZs need to be validated according to the zone time - i.e. either AM (8am-12 noon) or PM (12 noon to 6.30pm).
Visitor scratch card permits for full-day CPZ - i.e. Palmers Green, Southgate, Enfield and Enfield College must be validated as follows:
Enfield & Palmers Green - AM (8am-2pm) and PM (12 noon-6.30pm)
Enfield College & Southgate - AM (9am-2pm) and PM (12noon-6.30pm)
