SCHOOL PARKING RESTRICTIONS

Parents parking in contravention on the school keep clear zigzags can be a significant and dangerous problem for some schools. This can make the roads directly outside the school less safe as the parked cars can physically prevent children crossing at these points and also interrupt sight lines, which makes it difficult for children to see approaching cars, and makes the children more difficult to be seen by passing motorists.

The following parking contraventions are enforced by Enfield’s Civil Enforcement Officers (ie parking attendants.)

Parking on school keep clear zigzags

  • £110 penalty

Double parking or stopping in the road, where parents get out of the car to take their children to school.

  • Obstruction of the highway  £110

Additional information

  • The driver remaining in the car whilst stationary with the engine running still counts as the car being parked, and so it can still be ticketed, despite the common belief that this is not the case.
  • Contraventions can be captured instantly by the CCTV car and then Penalty Charge Notices are sent by post.
  • Civil Enforcement Officers do not have to attach the penalty to a vehicle in certain circumstances i.e. due to threats from the driver or if the vehicle is driven off. The penalty can still be issued under grounds of “Prevented from Serving”, and will arrive in the post.
  • Keep clear school entrance markings cannot be used for picking up or dropping off
  • Parents are only allowed to drop off and pick up on single or double yellow lines provided there are no loading or unloading restrictions in force (yellow kerb blips on edge of carriageway), there are no exemptions for waiting. This operation should take no longer than approximately 30 seconds.
  • To report that school zig zags or other road yellow lines have become faded, to request the presence of civil enforcement officers, the CCTV car, or to report any issues you have had with the same, please contact the Parking Enforcement Team on 0208 379 6406 Monday to Friday 7.30am to 6pm .
