If we can't answer your query, we can almost always find you details of somebody who can.


Our library staff are trained and have access to information via the Internet as well as reference books and local information sheets.

The most comprehensive information collections are maintained at our two largest libraries: Enfield Town Library and Edmonton Green Library.

You can find updated and free:

  • Online reference resources and books such as encyclopaedias, dictionaries, directories, handbooks and yearbooks.
  • Online legal and business databases such as Lexis Butterworths, Lexis Nexis, Cans, and Cobra and books.
  • Online local and family history databases such as Ancestry.com (Enfield Town and Local History only). 
  • Online biographical information such as Who's who, Who was who, Oxford DNB, Oxford Art and Oxford Music and Times Digital Archive.
  • Phone books and Yellow Pages directories for the United Kingdom and Ireland
  • Education prospectuses and careers guides
  • Maps and guides; street plans; large-scale Ordnance Survey plans (Enfield Town only 1:1250) of Enfield
  • Timetables for rail travel
  • A wide range of newspapers and magazines, (with some back files)
Enfield Town Library has a special collection of art exhibition catalogues covering major exhibitions of the last 40 years, which are available on request.

There are also information collections, newspapers and magazines at Ordnance Road Library, Palmers Green Library, Ridge Avenue Library and Southgate Circus Library with smaller collections and newspaper and magazine provision at all Enfield Libraries.
