As an Enfield library member, you can borrow and return books at any of the borough's 16 libraries.

How many books may I borrow, and for how long?

You can borrow up to 12 books for three weeks. This also applies to large print and audio books.

The deadline to return an item is the last date stamped on the date label or, if you are using self-service, as indicated on the receipt.

Can I keep a book any longer than this?

A loan can be renewed unless it has been reserved by another library member. You may renew a loan up to 10 times. You can do that in the library or by telephone, email or fax; you need to quote your library membership number. To renew an item online, you also need your library PIN.

What happens if I don't return or renew my books in time?

You have to pay an overdue charge for each day the item is overdue. We will send a reminder two days before the item is due back and, if the book is still not returned, two weeks past the due date.

Children with overdue items do not have to pay the daily charge but need to pay 40p for each reminder we send.

How do I find the books I want?

We have staff who will be happy to help you find your books and show you where to look.

Fiction (novels, short stories) is arranged in alphabetical order according to the author's surname or by genre (e.g. crime, romance). Non-fiction (information books) is arranged according to subject; each subject is represented by a classification number. Refer to Subject Index in the library that displays all subjects and their numbers.

What if I can't find the book I want on the shelves?

Ask at the counter. The staff will check if the book is available at another Enfield Library or within the London Libraries Consortium. If you wish, you can make a request for a book.
