Asbestos
Asbestos
Asbestos is a naturally-occurring mineral that had crystallised to form long thin fibres and fibre bundles.
The fibres have high tensile strength, and high chemical, electrical and heat resistance.
Because of these properties, asbestos has been used either raw (e.g asbestos textiles and asbestos insulation packings) or combined with other materials (e.g fireproofing, insulation boards and asbestos cement sheets.)
Areas in your home where you may find asbestos:
- Bath panels
- Central heating flues
- Fire blankets
- Floor tiles
- Garage and shed roofs
- Insulation panels in some storage heaters
- Linings for walls, ceilings and doors
- Loose asbestos packing between floors and in partition walls
- Soffits, gutters and rainwater fall pipes
If you believe that asbestos are present in a building
Call our Asbestos Management Team for advice.
We can:
- Provide advice about how to mitigate risks associated with asbestos.
- Refer you to Enfield Homes if you are living in the building. Enfield Council did a survey on properties that we own and Enfield Homes may already have information about your property.
The team also ensures that asbestos is managed safely in other council buildings (e.g schools, libraries, leisure centres and civic buildings.)
According to regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006, commercial enterprises have a duty to manage asbestos.
