Eligibility to vote
Who can vote in European Parliamentary elections?
British citizens, qualifying Commonwealth citizens (including Cyprus and Malta) and citizens of the Republic of Ireland are automatically entitled to vote at UK Parliamentary elections. In addition, citizens of the European Union Member States listed in the table above are also entitled to vote at European Parliamentary elections in the United Kingdom, but must make a separate application to do so. By doing so, the European Union citizen must renounce his or her voting rights at the same European Parliamentary election in their own Member State.
