We will be consulting in the next few weeks on a new draft Housing Allocations Scheme for allocating council and housing association homes in Enfield

By law, all Councils must have a Housing Allocations Scheme for deciding who gets council and housing association homes in their area.  Our current Scheme has been around since 2002 and is now out of date.

From December 2011 to April 2012 we undertook a first round of consultation which was about asking for peoples' views on ideas and proposals that could be included in a new Housing Allocations Scheme for Enfield.

Thanks to everyone who responded to the first round of consultation.  Your views have been used to influence the new draft scheme for allocating Enfield's council and housing association homes.

There is a severe shortage of council and housing association homes in Enfield, especially family-sized homes.  This means we cannot help everybody who wants one of these homes. We need to have a sensible, fair and transparent way of

• meeting our local housing needs
• helping the people in housing need who have no other housing options
• housing people we must help by law

The new draft housing allocations scheme will be made available for everyone to read from the beginning of June 2012.

Keep up to date with this consultation via the Council's website.  The second round of consultation will take place from June 2012, giving everyone another chance to comment and feedback on the new draft Housing Allocations Scheme.  If you would like us to let you know when we start the second round of consultation, email us on allocations.consultation@enfield.gov.uk making sure you type "Round 2" in the subject line.  A reminder email and link to the second round of consultation will be sent to you as soon as it is open.
