Shaping Ponders End
An Introduction to Place Shaping in Ponders End: Ponders End, located within North East Enfield, is one of our Place Shaping Priority Areas, which means that we are working with local residents, businesses and other stakeholders, to identify what we can improve in the area.
With the help of the Ponders End Vision Team and other local residents, Enfield produced the draft Ponders End Framework for Change, which sets out the development context and suggests how the area could be improved in future. The Framework for Change was awarded the 'Best Conceptual Plan' in 2010 London Planning Awards and has also been chosen as one of the Mayor of London's Great Spaces. This is an opportunity to raise the profile of Ponders End and access further funding so that we can improve the area.
The Ponders End Framework for Change was the result of extensive engagement with local residents and other stakeholders to ensure as many views as possible were reflected in the plans for the area. The consultation launched on 22 January 2009 and included themed workshops, "walk and talks" and outreach meetings. Ideas from these events were used in an Emerging Ideas Exhibition at Tesco (High Street Ponders End) on 18-19 March 2009. The full Consultation Report behind the Framework for Change details the comments made by the local community and other stakeholders during the preparation of this document.
The draft Ponders End Framework for Change was published for consultation on 20 August 2009 and ended on 18 December 2009. The consultation activity included exhibitions at local venues (including Welcome Point Community Centre and Vincent House); distribution of the Framework for Change at public and community venues; publication of the document on the Council website; a questionnaire in Our Enfield (the Council's magazine); community group workshops; and meetings with individuals on request. A full report on the outcome of the Framework for Change consultation will be published shortly.
The Framework for Change identifies three areas for which detailed planning guidance is needed in the form of Planning Briefs:
1. Ponders End Central (former Middlesex University site and around);
2. Ponders End South Street Campus (proposed Academy site on South Street and around); and
3. Ponders End Waterfront ( Columbia Wharf in the Lee Valley and around).
