Highmead Regeneration
The Highmead Project
Highmead is located in the district town centre of Angel Edmonton in the London Borough of Enfield. The site is served by two rail stations: Silver Street and White Hart Lane which are approximately a 25 minute journey into Liverpool Street, as well as a busy bus network. Highmead is a former Council estate that has been decanted by the Council in preparation for demolition and a comprehensive redevelopment designed to kick start the regeneration of the area.
The Council's vision for Highmead is the delivery of a high quality beacon development that not only acts as a catalyst for change but can attract people to buy into the area and strengthen the local retail offer.
In February 2011 the Local Planning Authority approved a planning permission for the Highmead site which will provide 120 mixed tenure residential properties, over 1,000 sqm of new retail space on Fore Street and a new community building on Alpha Road. The plans for Highmead have been shortlisted for a national design award which reflects the architectural quality that the new development will achieve.
The Council has already completed initial site clearance works and the demolition of Highmead tower started in March 2012.
Housebuilder, Countryside Properties, has been selected to rebuild the site and they will be working in partnership with Newlon Housing Trust who will own and manage the new affordable properties.
Construction is due to commence in summer 2012 with the first new homes completed in 2014.
