At School
What can Schools do?
Schools have a role to play in reducing our carbon footprint, as 44% of CO2 emissions from Council buildings and activities are produced by schools.
- It's important that all schools promote sustainable methods of travel such as walking and cycling or catching a school bus. This is better for the environment and children, as regular exercise is essential. Develop a School Travel Plan to promote this
- Educate pupils about recycling and energy efficiency
- Turn lights off when leaving a room
- Turn the heating down by 1°C; the recommended temperature is 18°C
- Buy 100% recycled paper
- Install push taps - these use half the amount of water of conventional taps
- Fit a water replacement device in toilet cisterns to reduce the amount of water used with each flush
