Enfield Town to Bounds Green Greenway

As part of Enfield Council's Greenway network, we propose to introduce an 8.6km route that will extend from Enfield Town to the boroughs southern boundary in Bounds Green.

This Greenway will make use of existing paths and quiet residential roads, connecting the central to the south-west of the Borough. It will avoid heavily trafficked routes such as Green Lane and steep gradients on roads such as Old Park Ridings.

The route will create a safe, convenient, easily accessible and green alternative way to travel. Improved access to and though the green parks and open spaces of Cheyne Walk Open Space, Grovelands Park and Arnos Park, will be of benefit to a greater number of local residents.

Children travelling to and from local schools will benefit from improved paths, crossing points and new routes away from major roads. There will be improved connections to workplaces and to National Rail and Underground stations. There will also be links to existing walking and cycling routes.

Local people will benefit from enhanced leisure and recreational facilities with a greater variety of routes and destination open to walkers, joggers and cyclists.

Proposals

This route will be implemented in phases during the next two to three years. The first phase will see improvements to a 4km length of the proposed Greenway, between Windmill Hill and The Bourne.

The proposed alignment will pass through residential areas in the Grange, Winchmore Hill, Southgate and Southgate Green wards.

Improvements that will be carried out as part of the first phase will include:-

  • New pedestrian and cycle crossing facilities on Gladbeck Way , The Coppice and The Glen.
  • Reconstruction of the path between The Glen and Cheyne Walk Open Space.
  • A new all weather path through Cheyne Walk Open Space.
  • Road safety measures and new pedestrian and cycle crossing facilities, at the junction of Green Dragon Lane, Cadogan Gardens and Eversley Crescent and at the junction of The Bourne and Parkway.
  • Widening and re-aligning of the path through Houndsden Spinney. This will include clearing of overgrown foliage.
  • Enhanced crossing facilities and wider paths at the entrances to Grovelands Park on Church Hill and on The Bourne.
  • Removal and/or relocation of barriers and obstructive street furniture throughout.

Construction of this first phase of improvements will be carried out over the coming months.

What happens next?

Our proposals for the southern section of this Greenway are currently being developed. Further information relating to this work will be published when available.

We are committed to ensuring that Greenways meet the needs of a wide variety of users. We are also keen to ensure that Greenways are sensitive to and in keeping with the needs of all local environments. This is particularly important in the environmentally sensitive parks and landscapes.

The views of local people can shape the way this route is developed and any feedback or suggestions you may have will be gratefully received. A comments form is available to download by clicking the link below. Please feel free to complete this form and return to the address provided.
