After School Clubs and holiday activities

If you are a parent who needs to work or study and want your children to have fun in a safe place after school hours, try an After School Club (ASC).

At an AFC, your child can enjoy a wide range of activities like:

  • Art and craft
  • Cooking
  • Drama
  • Imaginative play
  • Sports
  • Outings

Some ASCs also encourage more formal links with the school, including homework and reading activities.

Some ASCs have a Key Person system where a staff member (Key Person) is assigned to each child. The Key Person's main responsibilities are: ensuring the child's well-being and exchanging relevant information with the parent regularly.

ASCs are open during term-time; they provide after-school care for children usually till 6pm.

Most ASCs accept children between four and 11 years old. Some ASCs only accept four-year-old children if they are in full-time school. The age range depends on the group and school.

  • Most ASCs are run from school premises; there are others run from churches or community halls.
  • ASCs in schools usually only accept children from that school.
  • ASCs in churches or community halls may accept children from a number of local schools.
  • The Enfield Play Development Team (PDT) runs a number of ASCs.
  • There are also private and voluntary groups that run ASCs.

How do I find an After School Club (ASC)?

  • Ask Informed Families for a list of ASCs.
  • You can also ask your child's school about the sessions it has.

How much does an ASC cost?

  • Costs can vary; expect to pay between £25 and £35 per week.
  • You will be asked to sign a contract and pay a deposit or registration fee.

What other type of childcare is available?

  • Childminders may also drop off or collect children from their local schools.
  • Informed Families has an updated list of childminders.
