LHA changes - frequently asked questions

What are the changes?

There are three types of changes that come into affect from 1 April 2011:

1. Changes to Local Housing Allowance Rates (4 separate changes) - only affects people who rent from a private landlord and receive Local Housing Allowance (see below FAQs for further information).
2. Changes to non-dependant deductions - affects all claimants who receive housing and council tax benefit.
3. Change to allow an extra bedroom for an overnight carer - affects all private tenants.
