Met Office Update - 3 February 2012

The latest Met Office report indicates that the situation for the coming few days remains difficult with a period of snow still expected to move east across the region on Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

The more significant event occurs during Saturday night with a band of locally heavy snow moving east across all areas during the night giving 5-10 centimetres of snow in places, mainly in the east. As the front moves to the east the snow will turn to rain for a time before clearing.  This will lead to widespread ice across all but the far southeast by dawn on Sunday morning.

There are still some uncertainties about the timing and amounts of snow for this event.

Unless the situation deteriorates significantly it is anticipated that schools will continue to operate as normal.  However you are advised to make suitable preparations for the expected icy conditions.

Met Office Alert - 2nd February 2012

The Met Office has issued a “Be Aware” notice today, 2 February 2012, regarding possible snow over the next few days.

On Friday 3 February a band of snow is expected which may result in accumulations of 2-5 cm, although current predictions indicate this will occur late on Friday evening and is unlikely to affect London .  There is not expected to be any impact on schools.

During the weekend a more significant period of poor weather is likely to affect London during Saturday night and into Sunday morning. Further snow is expected which may result in accumulations of 5-10cm in places.  Due to the current very cold conditions any lying snow will remain on the ground during Sunday and into Monday.

Unless the situation deteriorates significantly it is anticipated that schools will operate as normal.  However they are advised to make suitable preparations for the expected icy conditions.

Update issued 3pm on Thursday 2 February 2012
