Tourism signs

Places of attraction can promote themselves by having signs set up on major roads in Enfield. To do so, contact Traffic and Transportation Services (TTS).

Who can apply

Any tourist destination i.e. a permanent established destination or facility that attracts, or is used by, visitors to an area; it is open to the public during its opening hours without the need for bookings.

Applications for tourism signs can also be considered for the following:

  • Excursions
  • Historical value,
  • Cultural
  • Sports and leisure destinations of more than local significance, should be referred by road traffic authorities for tourist directional signing

Tourist signs for hotels, accommodation and restaurants will not be considered.

How to apply

  • Write to or email TTS for approval.
  • The sign is usually allowed to be up to five minutes (in terms of driving time) from the destination it is referring to.
  • One tourist sign is usually allowed for one junction approach or any other location.
  • Each sign must not contain more than six tourist destinations. You may include more destinations for pedestrians and cyclists.

Roads that TTS does not deal with

M25

  • Contact Highways Agency instead.
  • Tourist signs on M25 will only be considered for destinations that attract at least 250,000 visitors per year (Government Office for London).

A10 and A406

  • Contact Transport for London instead.
  • Tourist signs on A10 & A406 will only be considered for destinations that attract at least 100,000 visitors per year (Government Office for London).
