Sheltered housing
If you are a council tenant and find it difficult to manage in your present accommodation but would like to continue living independently, then Sheltered Housing could be ideal for you.
Contact your Enfield Homes estate manager for more information.
Sheltered Housing schemes provide support and an alarm service for older or vulnerable people in a safe environment where residents can live independently and take part in social and community activities if they wish.
If you want to apply for Sheltered Housing Schemes, you must:
- Be 60 years and over; and
- Have a need for housing related support.
Housing-related support includes:
- Help in managing a tenancy
- Checks to ensure welfare and security
- Help with managing budgets and claiming benefits
Staff members, who sometimes live onsite, provide support to people living in sheltered housing. The general responsibilities of a scheme manager may include:
- Making regular checks on your well-being
- Liaising with your local doctor and your relatives, if required
- Managing the day-to-day running of the scheme
Scheme managers or wardens do not provide care services for residents or carry out tasks like shopping or cleaning. You can, however, apply for community care (e.g. having meals delivered to your home if you have problems cooking) if you live in sheltered accommodation.
