Speak up, speak out

Holocaust Memorial Day
6pm – 8.30pm, Thursday 26th January 2012
Dugdale Centre, Thomas Hardy House
Enfield Town

‘Speak up, speak out’ is the theme for this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day and Enfield Council is hosting an event at the Dugdale Centre in Enfield Town to mark 67 years since Soviet troops liberated the concentration and extermination camp at Auschwitz in Poland on 27th January 1945.

The notorious camp has come to symbolise the terror and degradation of the Nazi regime as one of the world’s most shocking events of the 20th century.

Pupils from Keys Meadow primary school will be reading poems and there will be films, readings and a personal testimony reminding us of recent atrocities.

Leading councillors, faith leaders and community organisations will also be making their contributions to the occasion.

Council Leader, Doug Taylor, said, “Holocaust Memorial Day is a national and international day to help us learn lessons from the past. Unfortunately there are still regimes in the world that are unstable and perpetrate hatred – so we must be ever more vigilant here where we can act to promote goodwill among all our communities.”
