London Borough of Enfield

Friends of Parks Groups

What is a Friends of Park group?
It is a group of interested local people who come together as critical friends, working with the Council with the aim of improving the appearance, facilities, conservation value and safety of their local park.

Some areas of involvement for the group can be:

Ensuring that the voice of the local community is heard in relation to the management of the park and improvement of park facilities.
To offer constructive criticism of the Parks Service.
Practical tasks such as litter picking and tree planting.
Raising awareness of conservation issues.
Organising events and giving talks.
Running the Visitor and Information Centres in the park.
Fundraising for improvements and events in parks.
Assisting in the marketing of park services and events.
Acting as the interface between the London Borough of Enfield and the wider local community.
Developing partnerships with local business and voluntary groups.

Community involvement is a very important aspect of achieving and maintaining high standards within Enfield's parks. It is a major factor in our efforts to win Green Flag awards. The development, facilitation and support of Friends of Park Groups are key to effective community involvement.

Friends Groups were first developed in 1995 and there are currently 21 Friends of Parks/Open Spaces Groups.
