There is help and support available if you, or someone you know, is a victim of hate crime.
What is a hate crime?
Hate crime is where a person or a group of people are victimised because the offender hates the victim's:
- Race / ethnicity
- Sexual orientation / sexual identity
- Disability
- Faith / belief
Some types of hate crime include:
- Verbal abuse and harassment
- Threats and intimidation
- Physical assault and violence
- Sexual violence
- Psychological and emotional violence
- Damage to property or belongings
Hate incidents and crimes can have a damaging effect on people and on local communities and need to be reported so that the community can be protected.
