Care homes
There are many different types of care homes in Enfield that provide care for different types of needs.
Care homes are registered according to the needs of the people using them, for example, nursing care, dementia care, mental health support, learning disability support.
Some care homes offer short-term places, for example for people recovering from a hospital stay or for respite care.

Care homes provide food, accommodation and personal care 24 hours a day.
The care homes are run by a variety of organisations, including private companies, voluntary organisations and Enfield Council. They are registered and regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). There are two main types of care home:
Residential homes (care homes without nursing care)
These are also known as residential homes and provide help with things like personal care, getting in and out of bed, using the toilet and taking medication.

Nursing homes (care homes with nursing care)
These are for people who need specialist care provided by trained nursing staff.

Both main categories of care are further divided by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) into the following different groups:
- Old Age - provide assistance for people who have physical illnesses that may be classed as more common in old age such as stroke, loss of mobility etc.
- Dementia (also known as EMI) - provide assistance for people who have a dementia related illness.
- Mental Illness - provide assistance for people who have a mental illness other than dementia.
- Physical Disability - provide assistance for people who have a medical condition that that affects their physical ability.
