Poetry and jazz have always made a happy union and to prove it Salisbury House Poets are holding a Poetry and Jazz evening on Saturday 7th November at Salisbury House that is sure to impress! Talented jazz singer Angela J. Elliott steps up to the mic, supported by esteemed bass player Louis Cennamo and Cuban percussionist Magnus Mehta, to perform a medley of jazz poetry and songs.

This uber-trendy event sees poetry, as a wonderful means of creative expression, integrating itself in to the Enfield cultural scene, fusing both language and music. The Salisbury House Poets, organisers of this and other events throughout the year, promote the emergence of poetry as an art form and actively encourage budding poets to come together to make and hear poetry at their regular monthly readings on Saturday evenings.

With its improviso rhythms and play on language, Jazz Poetry is often likened to an adult form of rap and hip-hop. As such, the work of the Salisbury House Poets develops older people's creativity - contributing positively to the rich creativity that is prevalent across the borough. Poetry and Jazz with Angela J. Elliott promises to provide a fun and relaxed atmosphere within which to appreciate and understand the art of poetry! ALL WELCOME.

The Salisbury House Poets have been meeting since 2002 and was founded by Anthony Fisher, Valerie Darville and the late Jane Elder. The group has a genuine interest in both reading and listening to poetry - half of the evening is devoted to poets from the floor and the other half to a guest poet. New members are always welcome.

Salisbury House is a community hub for art and creativity in the borough. A number of arts and crafts classes are held here throughout the week and rooms are also available to hire for workshops, community groups or meetings. Salisbury House is a grade II listed Tudor House in Bury Street West, set in picturesque grounds.
