FoI Information covered by the Freedom of Information 2000 Act

Most recorded information is covered, such as reports, minutes of meetings, and correspondence. The Act covers both records held on paper, and electronic records. The Act includes information created before 1st January 2005. We keep documents for a specific period of time before they are disposed of, in accordance with the Council’s ‘Records Management & Retention & Disposal Policy.’ If a document has been disposed of according to our retention rules then we are not expected to provide the information. We only have to provide recorded information that we still hold.

Information that has been sent to us from other organisations is also included, unless it is exempt for any reason. On occasion we may need to consult with third parties to get their consent to divulge information. If we do not hold the information you require, but are aware that another public body does, where possible we will advise you who that body is.
