Apply Now - Application Process
At Enfield we want to make our recruitment process as simple as possible. That's why we've prepared these guidelines to help you understand what information we need from you, and how you can get the most out us.
For each vacancy you'll find a brief description of the job, a job description and person specification. These are key documents which give you information about the job, skills, and other attributes that we believe are necessary to make a success of the role. We advise you to consider them carefully before you decide whether to apply.
To apply for a job, simply click on the vacancy you are interested in, and apply online.
We look forward to receiving your completed application. We'd also like to thank you for your interest in working with Enfield Council.
The application form
This form is the only information we'll have about you, so make sure you use it to tell us how your skills and experience make you the best candidate for the job. We want to know about your individual achievements and any relevant experience that you may have had, along with examples of your successes.
Should you be shortlisted for an interview, we'll contact you by email (or by post/telephone if you do not have an email facility) to confirm times and dates.
Unfortunately we're not able to reply to all our applicants, so if you haven't been contacted within six weeks of the closing date, please assume that your application has been unsuccessful. However we would encourage you to continue making applications for future vacancies, and invite you to visit our employment web pages, keep an eye on Enfield's vacancy bulletins, library vacancy boards and press advertisements.
The interview process
If your application is accepted you'll be invited to an interview, where we can get to know you and see if you're the right person for the job.
Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your interview.
- Make sure you're well prepared. Before your interview, read through the job specification and test yourself with questions you think might come up.
- Try saying your answers out loud, so you can control the speed and volume of your voice. A confident speaker will speak slowly and clearly.
- Get to the interview early, so you don't feel rushed. And perhaps bring some notes with you, to keep what you want to say fresh in your mind.
- Don't be afraid to ask questions. An interview should be a two-way process, so take the initiative and speak up if you find you don't understand something, or have a point you'd like to contribute.
- Take your time when answering questions - listen carefully and think about what you're going to say. This will help you to keep your answers concise and relevant.
- Don't assume the panel know everything about your work. They'll want to hear you really sell yourself, so give details and examples of how you meet all the requirements for the job.
- Remember, if you're not successful in your interview ask for feedback. That way you'll know what it is you need to improve on for future applications.
After the interview
If you're the successful applicant, HR will issue an offer of employment subject to the following clearance criteria:
- Pre-employment health check
- Compliance with the Asylum & Immigration Act 1996
- Satisfactory clearance of a Criminal Records Disclosure check if relevant to the post. (Please visit www.crb.gov.uk for further details about what this check entails.)
- Declaration of criminal offences in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
- Satisfactory references
- Complyiance with the council's Code of Conduct
- Declaration of any secondary employment
You'll be required to complete all the relevant documentation and return it by email where possible. Once we've gained all satisfactory clearances, we'll then contact you to arrange a start date, enabling you to hand your notice in if you are currently in employment.
