Who we are

Responsible for one of the largest boroughs in London, we look after a community of over 300,000 residents and acres of beautiful landscape. Enfield boasts wide-open space and a distinguished history, whilst also enjoying all the benefits of being part of a dynamic city, being just thirty minutes from the hustle and bustle of central London.

What we do

As outlined in the Children Act 1989, every local authority must work to safeguard and promote the welfare of children in the borough. In the Children and Families Division, we take great pride in fulfilling this duty. We offer a range of services that ensure any children in need are sufficiently supported and cared for, and that positive upbringing is promoted within their families.

The services we offer

Our dedicated teams of Social Workers support children and their families, by firstly carrying out an assessment to identify the exact nature of the children's needs, then setting about arranging the services that would be most appropriate to meet their requirements.

The department provides a wide variety of services for the needs of children, ranging from the Assessment Team where a 'threshold criteria' is used in order to determine if a child and family qualifies for a service based on their individual needs, to children with physical or learning disability, or a sensory impairment based at our Cheviots Children's Centre.

The Looked After Children Service provides support and care planning for children who cannot live with their birth families. Children are found appropriate long-term placements with Fostering or Adoptive families.

When young people are preparing to leave care our Adolescent and Leaving Care Team will help and support them to gain confidence, skills, ideas and opportunities to suit their individual needs.
