State of the Environment Report for Enfield
The State of the Environment Report for Enfield is the first of its kind produced in Enfield and provides a baseline "snapshot" of Enfield's environmental capital and quality in 2002.
It looks at the short and long term environmental issues and problems the Borough faces. The document also contains information on social and economic issues, the reason being that social and economic issues have a direct bearing on environmental quality especially in the long run.
This report is divided into nine 'themes' organised as chapters. A number of sustainable development objectives are identified for each of the themes and collectively they forge a vision of sustainable development for Enfield. Each of the themes contains a number of issues, which signify or indicate progress in the move towards greater sustainability.
This report complements the Borough's Local Agenda 21 strategy - a programme of action by the Council, other agencies, the private and voluntary sectors and the community as a whole to achieve sustainable development into the 21st century.
The Council takes action to influence as many of these factors as possible. Many however lie outside the direct control of the Council. By preparing this report we also hope to inform and encourage others; including businesses, individuals and other service providers to take action for a better quality of life in Enfield, as knowledge is the first step towards taking action.
