Workforce Development

The main objective of the Children's Workforce Strategy is to enable the council and its partners to deliver high quality services to children, young people and their families. It is critical that the whole children's workforce is sufficient, equipped at all levels, in all settings, to work in new ways and with new teams.

Our Children's Workforce Strategy sets out how the Children's Trust will prepare and develop the workforce so that it is well placed to work with and support children and young people in all areas of their lives.

A key objective of the workforce development strategy is to promote joint training and development of activities that are offered to teams and services across the Children's Trust. All training and professional development initiatives are underpinned by the Every Child Matters agenda and linked to the Common Core of Skills and Knowledge in the following areas of expertise:

  • Effective communication and engagement with children, young people and families.
  • Child and young person development.
  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the child or young person.
  • Supporting transitions.
  • Multi-agency and integrated working.
  • Information sharing.

To facilitate the implementation of this strategy we have set up a Workforce Strategy group made up of representatives from across the Children's Trust. The group has a clear brief to ensure that workforce development is embedded in teams and services individual action plans. The group also identifies and funds training and professional development initiatives that can be accessed by the entire workforce, to promote partnership working by bringing practitioners together and opening up discussions and further developments in partnership working.

Currently there is a range of training on offer and with more in development and will be available at a later date. Please use the links on the left to find and access relevant training.
