Housing - allocations - allocated council homes
|
The local authority will allocate vacant Council and Registered Social Landlord properties to applicants on the Housing Register who have been approved for rehousing. Allocations are made based on points and an applicants suitability for the available property. All prospective new tenants will be invited to view any property offered to them and will be required to sign a tenancy agreement prior to being given the keys and occupying the property.
The Rehousing Team is responsible for allocating and reletting all vacant Council properties as well as nominating applicants to vacant Registered Social Landlord properties to which we have nomination rights. Once a Council property becomes vacant, the Team is responsible for ensuring that any necessary refurbishment to the property is carried out through our contractors prior to the property being relet. The Team is also responsible for identifying suitable applicants from the Housing Register for the vacant properties, either through a direct offer or via the Choice Based Lettings Scheme, where applicants are invited to bid for vacant properties. In both cases, applicants are short listed for a vacant property in points priority order. Once a suitable applicant/s is/are identified they are invited to view the property and the new tenant is then invited to sign for the tenancy of the property.
